Step Into Our History

McConnelsville, Ohio has been the county seat of Morgan County since 1817, with a rich history reflected in its architecture, downtown square, and historic landmarks.

At the center of town stands the historic courthouse, anchoring a walkable district filled with preserved 19th-century buildings. Just steps away, the Morgan County Historical Society shares the stories of the region through exhibits, archives, and local events.

McConnelsville is also the birthplace of Howard Chandler Christy, the renowned artist behind the iconic “Christy Girl” illustrations and World War I recruitment posters that gained national recognition.

No visit is complete without the Twin City Opera House, one of Ohio’s oldest theaters, where live performances and tours continue to bring the town’s history to life.
