Welcome to Historic McConnelsville

Discover the heart of Morgan County, where history, hospitality, and small-town charm meet along the scenic Muskingum River. McConnelsville is more than just a stop on the map — it’s a place to slow down, explore, and experience life the way it was meant to be savored.

Step Into Our History

McConnelsville has been the county seat of Morgan County since 1817, and its history is written in every brick and stone.

At the center of it all stands our historic courthouse, an architectural treasure that anchors the public square and represents more than a century of local government and civic pride. Just a short walk away, the Morgan County Historical Society preserves and shares the stories that shaped our region through engaging exhibits, archives, and special events.

We are also proud to be the birthplace of Howard Chandler Christy, the celebrated artist and illustrator known for his iconic “Christy Girls” and patriotic World War I recruitment posters. Christy’s work put Morgan County on the map and continues to inspire art lovers from around the country.

No visit is complete without stepping inside the Twin City Opera House, one of Ohio’s oldest theaters, where live performances and historic tours keep our rich cultural past alive.
